We’ve just got some breaking information from a trusted source about Verizon’s Android strategy. According to it Droid is the brand name of Verizon’s Android devices and not a single phone.The Sholes, which we’ve been calling the Droid, may be simply known as Droid. HTC’s Desire will come as “Droid Eris”, named after Greek goddess of strife. But Verizon is not going to announce or show it at Verizon’s October 20 event, Droid Eris will be released on November 6.
It’s interesting that Verizon will be applying a sub-brand to its Android line — and a pretty solid sign that Big Red’s got a serious commitment to the platform going forward.
That’s all we’ve got so far, but it’s a heck of a change in plans, isn’t it?
