Samsung Galaxy SII Quickly Becoming Most Popular Smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy SII has been on sale for around 3 months in Asia and Europe and is causing a sensation. Sales quickly topped 3 million in less than 55 days, and have now exceeded the 5 million mark, with Samsung hoping for 10 million sales by the end of the year. The Galaxy SII has been the first phone to knock the iPhone 4 from its top sales spot in the UK, which has caused Apple some annoyance to say the least.

Although it is selling like hot cakes in much of the world the phone has still yet to go on sale in the United States, much to the annoyance of many American Android fans who want to get their hands on the latest Android powerhouse. The phone is expected to go on sale in the US in August, when it will be released on all major US carriers and sales will be expected to sky rocket yet again.

This US release date for the SII is still ahead of the planned release date for the iPhone 5 which will be the biggest threat to the SII’s conquest of America. Apple has taken issue with design features of the Samsung Galaxy phones that bear resemblance to the iPhone and is seeking to halt the import of Samsung smartphones to the US. This move, if successful, will no doubt be highly frustrating to the many American onlookers who are eagerly awaiting the latest Android superphone that much of the rest of the world has been enjoying for the past few months.

Although the SII is achieving record sales for an Android phone it is still short of the sales achieved by the iPhone 4, which is now a year old. But when the iPhone 5 goes on sale in September or October the SII will be the biggest threat to its market domination. Samsung will also have plenty of time to issue an even more awesome handset before the release of the iPhone 6 next year.
