ASUStek Computer Company in March plans to expand the Eee family of products with an affordable mobile phone. It was reported by resource Digitimes, citing the words of Jonney Shih, the head of the ASUStek, in an interview with Chinese-language Economic Daily News.
Release of low-cost phone branded Asus Eee should be part of the revised strategy of ASUStek with an emphasis on developing affordable products for consumers, whose purchasing power had deteriorated as a result of the global economic downturn.
Originally the company planned to submit Eee phone in 2008, but then the deadline was postponed to March 2009.
Specifications of the future model is not yet known. However, there is the possibility that the Eee-phone model will run on a mobile platform Android.
