Taiwanese HTC and Korean LG have adopted the same policy for 2012. They will launch a few smartphones in coming months and wouldn’t launch anything else this year, and will be busy by promoting their newly launched handsets. If the main players with HTC branding are the One line smartphones in face of the HTC One X ,One S and One V, LG will be trying to conquer the market with the help of warriors called the LG Optimus L7, L5 and L3. As you’ve guessed the phones are introduced in descending order–from the highest device to the weakest one. So we decided to take the mid-range models from both carriers and compare them with each other in order to find out which company has more chances to sell more phones and surpass another.

The HTC One S sports a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 540×960 pixels, and though S-AMOLED screens are quite welcomed by users, its pixel density still remains not that attractive, 256ppi. However, it is powered by Gorilla Glass 2 technology, thus users can be sure their smartphones will serve them for a long time and there wouldn’t be any scratches on the display.
In terms of display, the LG Optimus L5 can’t boast of, because it comes only packed with a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 320×480 pixels, therefore the pixel density is not that high, 144ppi. There are no protecting covers on the display, so its owners must be more attentive not to injure their phone.
The next key feature is the processor, which is a dual-core one and clocked at 1.5GHz at the HTC One S. It comes with an Adreno 225 GPU, which is not that attractive, as it comes with almost all mid-range handsets. The LG Optimus L5 has no chances to compete with the One S in this case, because it is packed with an 800MHz processor and with an outdated accelerometer. Honestly, I don’t remember another current mid-range smartphones with a similar processor, perhaps I can mention only the Motorola Motoluxe.
As for cameras, the HTC One S can take snaps with an 8MP rear camera that comes with autofocus and LED flash. This is not the best option, as you won’t have high quality pictures when shooting in dark conditions, but 8MP lens have become usual for HTC’s mid-range handsets and we must note this fact. Plus, it can take Full HD videos at 1080p and 30fps. The LG Optimus L5 is equipped with only a 5MP camera on the back with autofocus and LED flash, but it can’t offer any gorgeous features to its users. Both smartphones sport frontal cameras for web chat.

Though the LG Optimus L5 was announced at MWC 2012 in Barcelona and we know most of its features, we still are unaware what internal memory the phone will come with. We only know there is a microSD card support that will let users expand the memory up to 32GB. As for the HTC One S, we know it will be packed with 16GB of internal memory with microSD extension and the phone will sport 1GB of RAM, which is a welcomed feature.
The connectivity features of both handsets are identical, so there is nothing to compare. I just must to say they sport Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, HSDPA, HSUPA, Bluetooth, and microUSB 2.0.

Finally the HTC One S will be launched with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 4.0, which promises enabling Beats Audio. The LG Optimus L5 will run the same version of Google’s platform and use all the goodies coming with it like Google Voice.
Well, the countries, carriers and prices are not still available, but I guess wherever they are launched these phones will provide respectable sales volumes, though the LG’s representative yields the HTC One S, and the manufacturer must promote it well for better results.
