PDA veteran maker Palm introduced today its new smartphone Palm Pre, working on a web-based operating system, WebOS (formerly rumored as Nova).

Smartphone has a 3.1″ touch screen with a HVGA resolution of 320×480 pixels, sliding QWERTY keyboard, GPS, 3 MP camera, 8 GB of internal memory and Wi-Fi.
In addition, in the best traditions of the company, «zone gestures» are inlcuded for easy navigation. For music fans will be very useful to the presence of 3.5 mm jack for headphones. As most of the modern communicators, accelerometer is on board. The device is quite compact – its dimensions are 101x60x17 mm and the weight – about 135 gr.

Well, regarding its software part, we should mention, that WebOS has high-quality browser, as well as full support for the various protocols of communication.
Palm Pre will be available for only U.S. operator Sprint so far in the first half of 2009, but for future UMTS-version is beeing prepared for other regions. Unlocked Palm Pre will cost $500-600 and Sprint subscribers can get this for just $399.

Looking at the specifications and design of the new product, we can say, that Palm, with right positioning and software,may at least partially regain once lost influence in the market of mobile devices.
