HTC HD2 (Leo) by O2 soon

The HTC HD2, previously rumored as Android smartphone, is none other than the HTC Leo, of which we already know as a phone coming with Windows Mobile 6.5

Rumors leaked from O2 UK are suggesting that this device is close to launching in October. The HTC HD2 is stated as a phone having “the largest screen yet on a mobile” – the 4.3 inch WVGA display pretty much validates this statement.

As previously reported, the new smartphone will also be equipped with a 5MP autofocus camera and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

The HD2/Leo is still not officially announced, so we don’t know its exact release date or price at the moment.

LG BL20 – officially announced

LG BL20 has been officially announced as the second New Chocolate phone after the high-end BL40.

The BL20 will be available in the UK via O2 (which just lost its iPhone exclusivity) starting the fourth quarter of this year.

All the features of the device, we have posted earlier, are now confirmed, including the 2.4 inch QVGA display, the 5MP autofocus camera, the touch-sensitive navigation pad and the touch-sensitive side controls.

The New Chocolate BL20 comes with Widget Hotkeys for quick access to news, weather or personal updates, and Clear Memo Capture, a feature that “captures text, handwritten notes and drawings with maximum clarity, offering a different way to record information.”

The price of has not been announced yet, but it will be “more affordable” than the price of LG BL40.

LG GW300 announced in the UK by O2 and Orange UK

Rumors about LG GW300 leaked yet back in July, and the phone has at last been announced in the UK.

The GW300 Viewty is a messaging phone and so it is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard, a Facebook application, email, and LiveSquare, a feature that gathers your favorite contacts on the phone’s homescreen “as avatars”.

LG GW300 supports tri-band GSM connectivity. Among other specification it worth to mention a 2.4 inch QVGA landscape display, Bluetooth 2.1, 3.5mm headset jack, FM radio, 2MP camera with video reocording, 10MB of internal memory, MircoSD card support (up to 4GB) and a 900 mAh battery.

LG GW300 will be available in electric blue from O2 and in vibrant red from Orange UK. The price has not been announced yet.

Palm Pre available by O2 UK on 16 October

The release date of Palm Pre was finally announced by O2 UK – 16 October.

The webOS smartphone is already on sale in the US and Canada, in the UK it will be available in stores and online from O2, as well as from Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and other O2 partners.

O2 subscribers who opt for a 24-month contract, or an 18-month contract at £44.05 or £73.41 per month, can get the Palm Pre for free.

The Pre is also free to business customers who hold business tariffs of at least £30.91 per month on 24 or 36-month contracts.

O2 will offer the Palm Touchstone Charging Dock too, for £44.11.

Yesterday was a announced that O2 UK will have exclusively rights to sell the Palm Pre in the UK.

According to The Guardian, the main competitor of O2 was Orange. Orange tried to get the right to sell the iPhone, but failed also and iPhone went to O2.

Presumably, Palm chose to compete with the Apple phone in a single operator.

Not much time passed since Apple announced latest version of iPhone 3G, adding to its name “S”, with a message to all, that this one will be much faster, better equipped and will have a lot of new features.

We have already wrote about Apple iPhone 3GS specs, about its new upgraded hardware of 256 MB of RAM and 600 MHz processor, expected news was iPhone OS 3.0 with full of new features, upgrades, etc… Now its time to tell how you can get it when you are in UK as not so long ago O2 has announced its tariffs for getting 16GB or 32GB versions of iPhone 3GS.

The 16GB iPhone 3G S will cost you anywhere from £184.23 (about $300US) to £0 on an 18-month contract. If you are willing to sign a 24-month contract, you’ll pay either £87.11 (about $141US) for the 16GB iPhone 3GS or get it for free.

The 32GB iPhone 3G S will range between £274.23 (~$444US) and £96.89 (~$158US) for an 18-month contract and £175.19 (~$283) and £0 for a 24-month contract. Contract prices range between £29.38 (~$48US) and £73.41 (~$120US) for 18-month terms and £34.26 (~$55US) and £73.41 (~$120US) for 24-month terms. All plans include unlimited UK data and WiFi.

UK Pay & Go customers can get the 16GB iPhone 3G S for £440.40 (~$715) and the 32GB iPhone 3G S for £538.30 (~$874). If you purchase an iPhone 3G S with Pay & Go, you’ll get a year of unlimited web and Wi-Fi for free.

Cheaper iPhone from O2 this summer

The iPhone 3G carrier in the UK, O2, is rumored to offer the iPhone 3G for a lower price, as all are waiting for the new iPhone, which will come out this summer.

For the moment the 8 GB version is available for free on £44.05 a month contracts, whereas the 16GB iPhone is free only on a £73.41 a month contract, but as the rumors say the 8 GB will appear to be on £35 a month contracts and 16 GB – on £45 tariffs. This is yet uncertain now, but it is likely to be true, since almost everyone is expecting a newer iPhone to come out this summer, as an annual summer release. Especially with news of OS 3.0 being announced this week, it’s usually a good indication of things to come.

Another rumor also states that Orange may also begin selling the next-gen iPhone, by this putting an end to O2’s reign of exclusivity in the UK.

Palm Pre Heads to Telefonica, Not Vodafone

According to prior announcements, the most expected handset Palm Pre is not planning to be distributed in the UK by Vodafone; instead it will be offered by Telefonica. It is the first time the company, together with its subsidiaries Movistar and O2, is launching Pre in Spain, UK as well as Latin America. It is known that Movistar will launch pre in Spain and some countries of Latin America before summer 2009.

Up till now it is still not certain yet what price the carrier will set for the handset, but it is expected to appear with series of data plans. That shows that there will be a great range of prices for the devices and will vary depending on the country to be purchased in.

One thing to take into account is that Telefonica, being a GSM/HSDPA phone operator; should as well sell the GSM version of Pre. The CDMA version of Pre is supposed to appear on US market by Sprint, but the exact date is not certain yet. In addition to this, the handset should also go to Canada. At this period of Telefonica’s prosperity, it has managed to be a great success, and even is now competing against Vodafone.

O2 XDA Guide announced in Germany with TomTom GPS maps

Operator O2 Germany announced a new representative of series Xda – Communicator O2 Xda Guide. Manufacturer is HTC. This model is seen as the successor of communicator O2 Xda Orbit 2, which is based on HTC Touch Cruise P3650. Judging from technical specifications O2 Xda Guide is a very functional model, but without any outstanding features.
