Rumor: N-series Touch Smartphone by the end of year

In New Deli, Head of Marketing of Nokia in India, Devinder Kishore officially stated that «soon» company will show a series of phones with touch screens, including smartphone in N series.

Obviously, the device will be based on fifth version of S60, which was announced togather with Nokia 5800 Touch. Is not known what name will the model get, and how it will look. However, this did not prevent the resource Engadget propose their own skit, a synthesis of Nokia N96 and Nokia 5800.

From N-smartphone with a touch screen are expected more features than from Nokia 5800. Most likely, this will be reflected in better camera (for example, an 8 Mp).

Finally, the most important question about the statements of Kishore is how soon is the promised release.

It is anticipated that this will happen before the end of the year.

Nokia acquires OZ Communications

Nokia logoThe largest mobile phone producer in the world Nokia has announced that they are interested to buy OZ Communications – a provider of mobile messaging services in Canada.

The main functions of OZ consist on providing access to instant messaging programs such as AOL, ICQ, Windows Live Messenger, and also to offer email services that work with Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, and others.

We can only suppose that, all these features will be used in Nokia made phones.

At the moment OZ has large number of subscribers, estimated around 5.5 million, and Nokia will surely stimulate its growth.

After Nokia acquires OZ Communications, it will have a pretty good advantage to its competitors, as Nokia phones can provide all the messaging solutions for specific mobile phone models, the S60 and Series 40.

Nokia E75 or E73 - spy photos

Site Symbian-freak.com publishes photos of the phone Nokia E75 - this device is with a QWERTY-keyboard (based on the published movie by Nokia).

Nokia N900 Internet Tablet

If you are still playing around with your N800 or N810 internet tablet you should hear this. Nokia might launch a new version soon. The next generation tablet might be the N900 and it is said to have 3G connectivity, OMAP3 processors from T1 and high definition cameras with photo sharing. A new OS version is also coming soon. We keep following news from Greepeace expters what concerns mobile industry and now Greenpeace presented «Green Guide of electronics industry», which reflects realities about how companies relate to the issue of cleaner production. This rating is based on data for use poisonous materials in producation, optimizing energy use and waste management industry.

First place in the ranking has Nokia, which got 7 points on the scale of «green» of the 10 possible, mostly due to the fact that since 2005 has been producing phones in which PVC is not used. In second place comes Samsung with five points, which since November 2007 produces LCD panels without polyvinyl chloride.

At the very bottom of a ranking table is Microsoft, Sharp and Nintendo. Nintendo received zero score for almost all criterias, except for the optimization of chemical elements.

Nokia starts shipping of Nokia N96 in Europe

One of the most waited phones from Nokia - smartphone Nokia N96, which was announced in February - has finally been put on sale on the European market. Such a long time between the announcements and the start of shipping - isn’t typical for Nokia.

Nokia completes acquisition of Symbian

Nokia SymbianAlready no one stands in the way of Nokia as final acquisition of Symbian is done. We should remind that Nokia announced its intention to purchase the remaining shares of Symbian as early as in June.

That time was obtained consent from Panasonic, Siemens, Ericsson, Sony Ericsson. The last of the list of shareholders was Samsung Electronics, which finally gave its consent to sell its stake in Symbian.

As the representative of Nokia told Reuters, Samsung accpeted a proposal by the Finnish giant. Full acquisition of Symbian was one of the preliminary steps to create a unified open platform Symbian Foundation. Soon, this necessary stage will be completed. According to plans of Nokia, the first smartphones based on the new platform will appear in 2010.

Nokia N97 - designed and made in China

Nokia N97 (never seen and never officially confirmed) until recently existed in the form of informal drawings and rumors, but it did not prevent the Chinese comrades to create their own version of the device.

What Chinese couldn’t do well is its design - N97 has turned to be frightening. N97 is slider with a mechanism for turning the camera, which somehow reminds Nokia N90.

Otherwise, the design reminds overall Nokia style.

By the way, this is not the only case in which China has cloned not yet born phone - at one time Chinese factories managed to issue a model based on an early technical drawings of iPhone.

Though, fortunately or not, the real iPhone was not quite like these drawings.

3G Nokia N96 for North America announced

Nokia today announced that its flagship N96 smartphone, unveiled earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, will be available with support for AT&T’s 3G HSDPA network in the United States.

The Nokia N96 was announced with dual-band UMTS (900/2100Mhz), but this North American version will offer dual-band (850/1900MHz) UMTS instead. All other features will remain the same, including the cell phone’s 5 megapixel autofocus camera with dual-LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics and unique built-in kickstand.

The Nokia N96 also features built-in WiFi and a GPS receiver, alongside a whopping 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for even more storage. A 3.5mm audio port and dedicated music playback keys add to the abilities of this multimedia monster.

The Nokia N96 NAM is set to be available in Q4 2008, with pricing set at EUR550 (US$800) before taxes and subsidies.

Nokia N85 has many times been rumored on the Internet and have written about, a few days ago, Nokia has shown this handset together with a new Carbon 8800.

Rumors: Nokia N79 and N85

Nokia logoJust recently we posted leaked photos of Nokia N85 and now some sites publish “official” specifications of it and also of an another S60 smartphone - Nokia N79. Though Nokia is going to announce these 2 S60 smartphones tommorow, but let’s see what Electronista and PocketLint report about these devices.

According to these sites, the new slider Nokia N85 will be equipped with a 5 megapixel camera and a GPS system for geotagging photos.

We see that the display of new Nokia N85 will be new AMOLED type with a 2.6″ diagonal, and that its battery will be capable of powering the device for 28 hours of music playback.

N85 supports microSD card slot (8GB card included) instead of built-in storage space. Regarding it’s communication specifications -  WiFi and HSDPA are both supported.

What concerning to Nokia N79, it is said it will be a bar phone designed to replace the N78, and that it will come with smart covers that will change the phone’s theme.

Nokia N79 will be equipped with a 5 megapixel camera with an autofocus, Carl Zeiss lens and a dual LED flash. GPS-reciever is also included.

Nokia N79 will also have an FM radio and it will be compatible with the Nokia Music Store. As N85, this device will also support microSD cards and a 4Gb card will be shipped with it.

Realease date of this S60 smartphone is said to be during the next month.
